HyperDrink 90 is a high-quality, high-carbohydrate powder drink, ideal for athletes who require an efficient source of energy during prolonged training or competition. A 500ml serving provides 90g of carbohydrates along with an extra boost of sodium (208mg), key elements for enhanced performance.
BENEFITS OF THIS HIGH-CARBOHYDRATE DRINK
HyperDrink 90 contains the ideal blend of carbohydrates, maltodextrin and fructose, in a 1.25:1 ratio (commonly 1:0.8). It has been shown that during prolonged exercise, the use of carbohydrates absorbed in the intestine by different transporters (known as GLUTs) is the only way to increase the rate of assimilation and oxidation of exogenous carbohydrates above 60 g/hour (Currell, K. et al., MSSE. 2008; Earnest, C.P. et al., JSCR. 2004). Research indicates that the ideal combination is a glucose source (in our case, maltodextrin) with fructose. Why combine them in a 1.25:1 (1:0.8) ratio and not the classic 2:1 or another ratio? Because recent research has shown that this ratio allows for maximum oxidation of exogenous carbohydrates, meaning that our body obtains maximum energy efficiency from the carbohydrates consumed. This is very important when carbohydrate intake in a small volume of liquid is very high (90 g / 500 ml) to ensure that the vast majority (74% efficiency) of what is ingested will be used for energy production without causing potential stomach/intestinal discomfort (Rowlands, D.S. et al., SM. 2015).
ADVANTAGES OF MALTODEXTRIN IN A HIGH-CARBOHYDRATE DRINK
According to existing scientific literature, it appears to be the best source when high efficiency in the use of exogenous glucose is desired, especially with high intakes in small volumes. Using it, we achieve maximum oxidation of exogenous carbohydrates compared to other glucose sources such as cyclodextrin (Cluster Dextrin®) or isomaltulose (Palatinose®). Cyclodextrin, or highly branched cyclic dextrin (Cluster Dextrin®), seems beneficial from an osmotic standpoint for preventing intestinal discomfort, but there is no evidence of greater energy efficiency. Isomaltulose (Palatinose®) provides glucose and fructose, but its energy efficiency is 41% lower than that of sucrose, for example (Achten, J. et al., JN. 2007). Furthermore, maltodextrin, being a larger molecule, decreases the osmolality of the mixture and minimizes potential gastrointestinal discomfort with high intakes during exercise (Rowlands, D.S. et al., SM. 2022). Conclusion: In terms of energy efficiency, glucose and maltodextrin are similar, but maltodextrin is osmotically preferable. It also contributes less flavor, which was desirable. Summary: For products with high carbohydrate concentrations during exercise, the key is to achieve maximum energy efficiency and minimize gastrointestinal problems. This is only achieved by combining maltodextrin/fructose in a 1.25:1 (or 1:0.8) ratio (Rowlands, D.S. et al., SM. 2022).
SODIUM IN THE HIGH CARBOHYDRATE DRINK 90
To complete the formula, we have added sea salt as a source of sodium (Na). It is the most important electrolyte during exercise because it is the one we lose most through sweat and is key to maintaining hydration (NDA Panel. EFSA Journal. 2011). The added amount is within the range that promotes the absorption of water and carbohydrates in the intestine (Shi, X. et al., IJSNEM. 2010; O’Brien, W.J. & Rowlands, D.S., AJPGLP. 2011).

First, fill a container with 500 ml of water. Then, pour in the contents of the sachet and shake well until dissolved.
